Airside Works in Progress

All aerodromes must manage work in progress at some point, whether as a result of new developments or maintenance. It is therefore vital that staff involved are able to manage the construction in a safe manner, enabling aircraft operation to continue, whilst at the same time allowing the works to carry on.


This course provides detailed information on how to plan aerodrome works, ensuring the necessary documentation is produced in accordance with the Airport's Safety Management System, how the works are controlled on a day to day basis and how to bring new developments into operational status.

Course objectives:

  • To identify and control hazard from and works in progress occurring airside.
  • to ensure the airport remains safe for operation by aircraft and staff.
  • Understand what the hazards are, what requirements and control measures are in place.
  • How to act when things do not go as planned.
  • How to act in emergencies when WIP are occurring. 

  • AERODROME CHECKLIST FOR WORK IN PROGRESS
  • Possible Safety Problems and proposed action / procedures to mitigate each problem.
  • Procedures for protecting and closing Procedures.
  • Compliance of construction project personnel with all airport safety
  • Emergency notification procedures for medical and police response.
  • Procedures for contacting responsible representatives/points of contact for all involved parties.
  • Any special conditions that affect the operation of the airport and will require a portion of the safety plan to be activated (e.g., low-visibility - operations, ect.  …)
