Aerodrome Flight Information Refresher

The course is designed to impart knowledge and skills to the Aerodrome Flight Information Service Officer (AFISO) students in order to enable them to qualify for an Aerodrome Flight Information Service (AFIS) student certificate of competency for Aerodrome Flight Information Service (AFIS).
According to ICAO-INTERNATIONAL CIVIL AVIATION ORGANIZATION (1988).  Aerodrome Flight Information Service Circular 211-An/128. ICAO (Montreal, Canada).was published in 1988 by the Secretary General of ICAO. The purpose of this publication was to introduce standardisation in regards to AFIS within international flight provisions.

Course Objectives:

  • Appropriate Radiotelephony skills to transmit/receive flight information from/to aircraft in flight
  • Understand essential information for transmission to aircraft in flight.
  • Understand, observe and record weather conditions and pass specific information for the conduct of safest flight to aircraft.
  • understand how to react to any aircraft emergency and ensure appropriate assistance is activated.

  • Meteorological information for aircraft about to take off or to land, including SIGMET information.
  • The most suitable runway for use.
  • Information that is essential to the safe operation.
  • Information on aerodrome conditions and the operational status of associated facilities.

  • Information on unmanned free balloons.
  • AFIS requirements for communications
  • Aeronautical mobile service (air-ground communications)

  • Status of service and radiotelephony phraseology
